Episode One – Introductions
Hudson
Welcome to the first ever Be Daring Life podcast! My name is Hudson and we are so glad that you are here with us today. This is an exciting day for us! It feels like things have moved so slowly and it has taken us forever to reach this point, but when we look back it’s pretty cool to see how far we have come.
Rachel
Let’s introduce the crew here. I’m Rachel, aka Mom, I love to build things like furniture. Rebecca is a junior and, she loves the culinary arts and working out. Jenna is in 8th grade, she loves volleyball and solve puzzles. Hudson is in seventh grade. He loves to work on small engines and construction projects. Keith, dad, is an IT guy. He loves trees and gardening and heavy equipment.
Rachel
We want to talk a little about our plans for the podcast. Our goal is to help middle school/high school kids and their parents in any way we can through our show in a fun and engaging way. We are going to talk about topics that are relevant to you guys, so feel free to send us topic ideas. We are not experts in all areas, but we will do our best to find out anything that we can to help you be successful. Some of our topics will be money making ideas, time management, organization, nutrition as well as the heavier topics like sickness, depression and grief. We are going to occasionally have guest interviews speaking on things that will help you.
Rebecca
Today we are going to talk about starting. The hardest part of any project is starting it. So many people have great ideas, but they feel like they have to have every detail figured out before they can begin. If you think that way, you will never begin. You just need to figure out the first few steps and then start moving forward. It is easier to make course corrections when you are moving.
Hudson
It’s kind of like a car. If it is parked it is hard to steer, but if it is moving down the road you can turn the wheel and go a different direction.
Rachel
Kind of like when we started Be Daring Life. We did not know that it would look like what it does now. We knew we wanted to teach life skills but our original idea was to focus on skills for middle school boys, but as we got into it we realized that we had content that could reach girls and older kids and even parents and we love where we are headed.
Keith
Mark Twain said, “The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret to getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks and then starting on the first one.” He also said, “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So, throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
Rachel
The best way to learn about yourself and what you enjoy doing is to try different things. I wish I had known that when I was younger. Don’t be so afraid of trying new things and learning new skills.
Rebecca
So, what is it the thing that you have told yourself, “I would love to learn how to do that.” Grab a pen and some paper and start writing down some ideas of what your first steps might look like. You will never know if it could be something that you might really love if you never start.
Jenna
So, we would love it if you would subscribe to our podcast. Turn off the music one day a week and let us join you when you are driving around town. If there are any topics you are interested in drop an email to podcast@raisingconfidentteens.com
Rachel
Join us for our next podcast where we will be talking about how to set goals so see ya then!!
