Hey friends! I was just thinking today about the people that we have in our lives. We don’t often think about it, but it matters who we hang around. There is a quote by a man named Jim Rohn that says, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” Look at your five best friends. Are they people who encourage you in your interests and make you want to be a better person? What about you – do you encourage them to be better?

Many people who have found themselves in trouble say that the first step in the wrong direction was when they started hanging out with the wrong crowd. If you hang out with people who do drugs and commit crime, it won’t be long until you find yourself doing something that you never thought you would. But the reverse is also true. If you choose to surround yourself with people who encourage you and are accomplishing great things themselves, then you will find yourself working toward improving your life.

But what if you don’t know anyone better that you can hang around with? Talk to a teacher or adult who can maybe help you find some good mentors. You guys are leaders and are capable of doing amazing things! Sometimes it can be a little uncomfortable stepping out of our comfort zone when we know we need to change. But we know that you can do it! I have heard amazing stories about teenagers who met someone who became a mentor to them and as a result totally changed the direction of their lives.

Here’s your challenge – Look around. Do you need to find some new friends or limit the influence some people have on you? Do you need to become a better friend yourself? If you need to, take a step in the right direction today. It will change your life!
